If "the dream" of free speech means I have to be completely anonymous, then I'm out - I'll just live in a hut in the woods.

The real dream is being able to speak my mind -as myself, if I choose - without censorship. Sure, they can try to silence me by throwing me in jail, but they can't lock up everyone - we'll just keep finding ways to relay and rebroadcast our messages.

Having the option to post anonymously is important, but it's not the ultimate goal - or at least, that's not how I understood it.

sounds like you should go into politics.

It depends on what the potential consequences of a particular thing you want to say might be, and those can be very different based on where you live, too.

💯, which is definitely why you should have the option to post anonymously, eg by connecting through tor

For sure, but there are some considerations to make. You must do this consistently from the beginning, if you want to remain anonymous. If you normally just connect via clearnet, then the jig is already up for that identity.

If you decide to maintain a separate identity for saying things you know could have potentially dire consequences, you will also have a separate social graph for each identity. The social graph of your anonymous identity will not receive any of the social reputation benefits you may have built up on your more public identity.
