It's interesting that I have never seen two houses with the same layout (except houses built in the same place by the same entity). The number of variations is almost infinite.

There are a general plan outlines that appear often however because they are efficient.
Checkout Vancouver. It has this housing style so iconic that it's called the "Vancouver Special." Youll find houses with the same layout on the same block.
Interesting. In the UK you will find row upon row of terraced housing in the cities, built by different entities over many decades with virtually identical layouts. Possibly influenced by land restrictions and a formula that worked. If it ain't broke why fix it.
