I gathered the stones off the lot to create the boundary posts. This was a common way to establish fence corners on the prairies where trees for posts were rare and precious.

Great idea sir, but would putting the large stones at the bottom not make more sense?
It probably would, in this case, this was the order I found the rocks.
The key here is more about interlocking mass. There is a steel T post driven 3 feet deep in the center of the stone pile. It stabilizes the mass. The wire mesh retains the mass.
Solid stone in this area weighs 160# per cubic foot, so this mass post probably will exceed two tons.
