For The Netherlands I'm unsure. Usually it's Minister of Justice who pushes for this crap. The previous one, Yeşilgöz, actually liked it. She ignored a motion from Parliament that opposed it. That's probably why The Netherlands is now listed as neutral.

The current Minister is Van Weel, from the same political party.

The current cabinet in general is not known for its love of privacy, with a former spy boss as prime minister. Or rule of law for that matter... So I'm a bit cynical.

Our best bet might be to contact some NSC folks to raise this issue, e.g. Teun Struyckenz is "staatssecretaris voor Rechtsbescherming". ("voor" means they're not in charge of anyone, so I guess they have free time?)

There is a website dedicated to this purpose: https://chatcontrole.nl/doen/

https://edri.org/ is a European initiative that seems well organized and hosts a petition.

From the petition:

> Children deserve a secure and safe internet

I get how this appeases lawmakers, but I really hate protect-the-children framing. That's what caused this mess in the first place.

What I care about, and the petition does mention this, is privacy for everyone and protection from mass surveillance. I don't care about children, they are the responsibility of their parents. If the state insists on "protecting" them, because they distrust parents, then it needs to do so without violating my rights. And I feel no need to suggest an approach.
