Q: Why does the social network with the least moderation or censorship have the most wholesome and relaxed community?
Q: Why is engagement on nostr so high without an algorithm to boost engagement?
Q: Why is the only social network without a company also the only social network with money?
A: because humans are, after all, mostly good
A: because without an algorithm feeding all of us toxic content, we actually want to engage, instead of being emotionally manipulated into reacting
A: because Bitcoin users have developed such a strong culture of self-sovereignty that we’ve been able to organize around shared goals and create something that can provide every world citizen with value

The feeling that we own this place. Ownership makes you care.
I see the big corporate social media as a huge experiment in the tragedy of the commons with nothing but top down control and manipulation as the “solution.”
Incentives.
Because we were blind. Many still.
1. Because humans are interacting with other humans without algorithmic intermediaries that create abnormal modulated engagements.
2. Because humans are social beings at their core and when allowed to perform number one above, will engage each other.
3. Because humans do not want to be manipulated for their time which is their money. This is what is done in modern social media. What occurs here on Noster is genuine.

1. I think this is temporary because we all share bitcoin as an interest which naturally groups us by a shared mindset. Also helps that there is no news on here and no rage algo. As more people join we may lose some of that wholesomeness but I’m optimistic it’ll still be better unless clients start introducing algos and all the media accounts come here.
2. I think this is because nostr is so small atm. There are not that many neutral perspectives to interact with so you tend to reply to the same people (at least that’s what I’m seeing). Also due to shared beliefs from point 1.
3. Not sure if that’s true because others just monetize with ads. Algo amplifies consistent content creators and helps them build an audience which they then monetize in some way. But the payment processing friction probably has a lot to do with not offering direct payments and subscriptions 🤷♂️ lightning solves that.
