It was only a matter of time this happened. If not now then later. If not one person then maybe many people.

The benefit of this happening now is that it’s still very early and nostr is small. Had it happened later we might be losing a lot more people in the process. While it wasn’t “nice”, it pushed people to tackle this hard problem.

Ultimately, if nostr can’t handle one spammer then it’s not ready for prime time.

I think it's a matter of how an individual perceives prioritied on what is right for nostr at this point in time.

Just like with natural disaster you don't get to pick the type and time at which they happen.

Prioritize and execute.

Agreed, If it can be spammed it will be spammed. Problems don't come at a time suitable to you. I'm glad we had solutions, even though all of them had certain tradeoffs. Spam is not exclusive to nostr, and we need solutions now, and not fail when it's already too big.

I think of all the solutions, the WoT solution had the least concerning tradeoffs, especially how https://coracle.social had already implemented it.

Alex can’t get it through his head that spam was inevitable. Now he’s celebrating about reporting the spammer to authorities?… 🤦‍♂️

We’ve been crafting a standardized way to pay relays for new users to gain more visibility until they are “in” more peoples’ WoT network, along with toggleable tier-based WoT functionality within the nostr:npub1h0rnetjp2qka44ayzyjcdh90gs3gzrtq4f94033heng6w34s0pzq2yfv0g relay that operators can adjust from a dashboard GUI, because we knew attacks like this were always going to be possible.

Between Alex’s vulgar harassment of the spammer to his suggestion of social credit scores & siloed Ditto relays that lack data portability, it’s clear to me he’s far worse for nostr than mere spam. Principles shape the eco-system, not short-term tantrums and premature declarations of victory from weak cat & mouse strategies.

“call the cops” security is as centralized as it gets:

Since when is spam illegal, anyway? 🤣
