Any #BJJ practitioners on here?

After competing in folkstyle wrestling for the last 14 years through highschool and college I’ve recently transitioned to Jiu jitsu and have been really enjoying the new challenge!

Love to connect with any other martial artist / freedom enjoyers.

🤝 how long have you been training for?

Wrestling is an underrated martial art - the art of control. I just wrestled one freestyle season in high school bc 3 of my best friends were very into it and urged me. Wish I had taken it seriously in high school. I’d love to find a school or camp that focuses on wrestling now and work specifically on that skill set.

I know nostr:npub16vrkgd28wq6n0h77lqgu8h4fdu0eapxgyj0zqq6ngfvjf2vs3nuq5mp2va is a BJJ guy and he may know more on nostr.

Yeah it’s too bad most bjj gyms don’t teach much when it comes to wrestling techniques I’ve found it super helpful in transitioning over. Not many options for adults who want to improve their wrestling.

Freestyle is a lot of fun but I’ve only done it a handful of times.

You can find MMA gyms with good wrestlers but that’s the only hope. I’ve asked high level wrestlers for coaching and practiced with them on open mat. Would love to get back into grappling

It really is so great physically and mentally not to mention the community! Always meet such awsome people in the grappling world!

Totally agree on every count.

Did you place in state when you wrestled folk style in high school?

Just came out of a class. I'm an early white belt, but really enjoying what I'm learning so far

nostr:npub16vrkgd28wq6n0h77lqgu8h4fdu0eapxgyj0zqq6ngfvjf2vs3nuq5mp2va is big on BJJ. He's the one who originally got me thinking about it

Same here, still a lowly no stripe white belt but it is an absolute blast training and learning! Definitely would like it to be a lifelong hobby!

It will be as long as you're careful who you roll with 🤙

Blue belt here, but have been out for a year when i flipped my four Wheeler and broke my back. I bet you clean up with all the wrestling experience

Damn sorry to hear that brother how has the recovery been going with that?

The wrestling definitely helps but still soo much to learn!

Recovery is good, and probably could go back now and be fine. Just need to find time bc i scaled up the farm and have had twins since ive been off matt

Glad to hear that, sounds like some pretty awsome life developments! Sometimes there are more important things in life than aggressively cuddling with guys in pajamas 😂🤷🏼‍♂️

This is true, but ive definitely recognized a decline in my mental health bc of that

Also very true I believe humans are wired to face physical struggles regularly and bjj is so great for that I always leave class feeling relaxed and refreshed. Hope you are able to find time to get back on the mats soon!
