I did like how simple the pit was but made my back hurt having to keep bending down. I just got 55gal drum and boy is it a lot easier to fill.

So, I'll be redoing about 400' of fence and I got an 8" auger for it. It still wasn't too easy to make the pit (big limestone rocks), but with that, made it pretty doable. Its deceiving in the pic, but its about 4' diameter across the top and about 30" deep. My first round was very successful, second on Easter not so much. I left in the middle, came back to tons of ash.

Ah nice! That’s a pretty large pit. The one downside of biochar- the babysitting time. But hell it’ll last generations and makes for a good night sitting around the fire with friends.

I have GOT to get started on biochar!

Going to my parents today. I'm going to make a trench kiln for his litteral tons of fallen Mesquite. I need an industrial level grinding solution!
