A private relay that's paid for by brands inserting advertising notes?

It’s called Twitter.

No sir, because you can just not use the relay, and nostr still works.

The relay is optional

Twistr

That’s actually a good name.

It would be great to have something like this, but is it solvable in general (with arbitrary client)?

What if clients, say, always fetch only events with filter by kind? And then map them to specific places in app. Should this relay “mask” those messages with existing kinds?

What if clients only fetch by users relationships graph? Forge pubkey?

This seems only viable for specific clients (i.e. brands client) and I would question its viability

Then the relay would be paid by the advertisers to keep their notes saved.

And the relays could pay us if we add it to our list🤷🏽 either periodically or maybe if people jump ship they would offer more to get you back or whatever? I dunno

I feel like this has to be a thing at some point. It would be the best way to compare the old model to more novel approaches like the zap splitting/prism idea.

Cool idea except why would I use that relay instead of one without ads?

Maybe with 'cashback' on sats to encourage relay usage?

A private relay where the brands pay the relay and the relay pays the users for viewing the injected content.
