The Current app had promise -- first nostr client I saw with an integrated wallet and one-touch zaps. Very slick UI to boot.
Not if it’s an integrated wallet that defaults to a client created Lightning Address that’s locked behind a Premium subscription paywall.

Yeah it was unfortunately. Can confirm from experience. Nothing personal, just every time I see nostr:npub1current7ntwqmh2twlrtl2llequeks0zfh36v69x4d3wmckg427safsh3w mentioned, have to call it out. Effectively KYCing you through in app subscription to use essential features other clients don’t put behind paywalls. No bueno.

Thanks for the call out. Putting them behind the paywall was due to apple restrictions. We do have the same client running on android without any restrictions. Our focus is on no coiners getting their hands on lightning and Nostr for the first time. Made it super easy for them.
Appreciate your response and explanation regarding the reason for that restriction. Seems as though my understanding regarding the root cause of it was lacking. Also good to know about the android client, I will be verifying that functionality.
One of my favorite features of Current is -- not sure what to call it -- scroll to snap? Where you scroll and it snaps to the top of the next note. So clean. Wish it was the norm.
Actually that’s good observation, it’s a minor tweak but has a big impact on the overall experience.
Also can confirm that wallet experience on Android is operating as expected with no restrictions, unlike Apple. Definitely a point worth considering when deciding on or recommending clients.
Imo the new user shouldn't know he is in NOSTR not even that he's transactions are in ₿itcoin.
Come in to this new platform that's is censorship resistant, deposit funds and tip what you like, with the normal exploration discover the true essence of nostr find your keys and go whatever you want

Preemptively ceding territory to regulators is not the right move. Rather the opposite. They should be preemptively bitch slapped and laughed out of every room they show up in, regardless of their intentions.
Of course, easy to say... But you can't even sue or blame them for their actions if you make all their moves by yourself first.

Absolutely not. Nostr's strength is to take a purist approach, e.g. defining the protocol and have everyone work on that. With more mandated, integrated features, there is more risk of being classifies as a problematic app for some reason or another, therefore risking banning and adoption.
A clear interface means it's user's choice of interop app, e.g. which wallet app to use.

The stuff I’m building allows us to mix this concept with an uncle Jim model.
Anyone can onboard their friends and family into nostr with an integrated LN and with NWC negotiated in the background.
Or Primal, or anyone, can provide this onboarding custodial wallet experience to any nostr application.
Imagine a single dev working part-time on a nostr client being able to provide a wallet in their nostr client without having to do anything.

That is possible with Nostr Wallet Connect
Apps will become wallet interfaces and offer send, receive, balance, list payments functions. But they don't need to become a wallet themselves.
Damus, Nostur, Amethyst and many other apps already support NWC.
