Japan: overworked

Also wonders why birth rates are low.

Dudes literally coming home, going to bed, waking up and repeating the next day. That’s no life.

I haven’t heard of this but sounds entirely plausible. Japan has some of the worst employment conditions. Everything from working late to after work outings with other employees - it’s insane and leaves no time for family.

Sadly I don’t think it’ll change any time unless there are strict financial penalties for encouraging and continuing this behavior.

In a perfect world, how much time / bandwidth needs to be dedicated to boning? Obviously these all work no play cultures are failing to reproduce. But how much play: work ratios lead to success/fertility? Even in US things are very consistently stressful from capitalism, could we improve fertility by decreasing that survival stress?

The root issue is not boning time but the economic situation and probably stress. People just dont make enough to be able to afford more kids. It doesn’t help that women don’t have much support from their husbands in terms of hands on help because they are always gone.

It feels like those complaints are also true of the US situation, not just Japan.

Of course, and look at the birth trends …

I just wish, for all of us including me, that we could be not stressed and get it in and feel all giggly and excited to be sharing news about our future families. How odd that we've stagnated so, and how strange that it seems a conundrum we cannot escape.

Can bitcoin help alleviate this? How is adoption in Japan?

Yes bitcoin is a fix to all of these issues on a long enough timeline but people don’t understand it. Adoption very poor to nonexistent.

A japanese colleague one told me how it wasn't uncommon for people to die of exhaustion on their commute from/to work (usually from). He even joked about how people would drive their car to the roadside and just die, but first get out off the way because that's how polite they are. Sad.

I haven’t seen or heard this but it sounds plausible. This country is really harsh on people culturally. The change must be initiated via some law I believe .. and it must be enforced or it won’t change anything.

I have no more knowledge than someone bringing up to him after reding something about it and him confirming it. He also said it wasn't rare for people to sleep at the office.

About the legislation, I heard sometime ago they wanted to introduce a law to force companies to promote taking all you holidays, or something along those lines. Apparently, most Japanese won't even take their holidays.

Not sure. I suspect it’s different in urban areas, I live in a rural area and we definitely take our holidays.

Ikigai

This is just a bullshit idea to offload mismanagement of the country’s resources

People aren’t having kids as much when money gets tighter. The yen is in a dark period. Japan lacks minerals and has to chase everything in a globalized world to compete with their neighbors. Resource domination control :(

Exactly, sad

Bitcoin fixes this.

They make shit consoles too. Nintendo sucks.
