Progressives and the left won’t care about these authoritarian trends and violations of human rights, the constitution, ethics and morals until it happens to them individually. Some can relate a bit when seeing trends against abortion rights and access and protests, but they’re not fully connecting the dots yet.

I’m sorry, I’m trying, but I think that’s just the way it’s going to be. Hopefully some of them, like me, will discover #Bitcoin and care a whole lot more about what we’re screaming from the rooftops. We don’t have much time left.

Agree. The exact same tools used against Canadian truckers that progressives cheered for will be used against the left at BLM and women’s rights protests. It’s not about who’s in charge now - it’s about the power that anyone in charge *should never* have.

Correct. I’ve talked about that at least a dozen times on nostr:npub1fpcd25q2zg09rp65fglxuhp0acws5qlphpg88un7mdcskygdvgyqfv4sld

💯 keep doing so. It warrants repeating 🫡

The violations will continue until the bureaucracy shrinks.

I do wish I had more optimism on that front. At least in the short term.

Zero-sum ideologies are so embedded at an institutional level (and so easily exploited for profit) that for a large and growing number of people, the ends more than justify the means… from surveillance to censorship to imprisonment. Or worse.

A big chunk of society is going to have to be okay with occasionally piping up for the rights and interests of people they have been conditioned to hate. It feels a long way off, I’m afraid.

Let it begin here 🤝

You're doing an amazing job Trey. None of us have the ability to change someone else's mind, all you can do is try to prepare them for when they have to make a decision. Hopefully your words of truth will ring in their minds when that day comes.

This is a response I got yesterday when I suggested that the student protesters use Nostr and Lightning Zaps to build their networks and exchange value in a way that doesn't feed the corporations and systems that have us under their thumbs:

"Dude, they gotta use whatever social media they know will quickly enable their movement to reach the most students ASAP. No non-corporate has anywhere near the kind of coverage they need. And they can't gain quick access to the supplies they need using non-govt currency, that hardly any of them have or know how to use in the first place."

So, I guess he's saying that we are required to use the chains that we are bound by.

how about no.
