This is a good question to #AskNostr

Hopefully #Nostriches will give better answers than “get a HAM radio license” (nanny statist #AUStriches will still seek permission from the State even in global chaos) or “supermarkets will need manual registers with checkout chicks”.

Also interested in opinions of how long a major internet outage could/would realistically last? Respondents on Xitter seem to think we would lose all knowledge overnight and be unable to recover at all so of course it’s going full Mad Max in their minds..

Personally I don’t see a “whole internet” scenario outside a black swan solar event / asteroid, but whole countries could possibly go down or be severely degraded with a combo of infrastructure attacks and hacks.

Cyberattack is fear mongering to make us accept kyc and digital IDs

For communication CB radios would work, hand held and a stronger car/base station type with large aerial. They are cheap enough and you can get longer range with repeater stations. A marine VHF radio, although illegal for land use normally, would also be useful. You could also set up a local mesh network if the equipment still worked.

These next things people should have anyway for everyday emergencies, fires, floods, loss of employment:

Cash to cover 3 months of current costs, you'd need this physically at home in or in a deposit box.

3-6 months of food, things you eat now, that can be stored. Can include frozen foods if you cover 'fuel' below.

100-200 litres of fuel for your car, and a generator if you have one and you should. With a 800-1000w inverter you can run your fridge from your car if the power goes out.

I also use a solar panel, battery bank and inverter that I can run fridges and other things off, this is a longer term option than fuel as it can be recharged every day.

Multiple sources of stored water. A water tank, lots of #Austriches already have these. Boxed or bottled water, you can fill empty 2l bottles from the tap and store them. Don't rely on the tap working. Also a way to filter water from a dam or creek etc.

Grow your own food, tools, medical equipment, a bucket type camping toilet or a deep hole.

Sounds like you’re ready for anything!

Cash I definitely see as more useful than gold/silver, goldbugs have this weird idea that people are just going to revert back to precious metals which seems incredibly unlikely to me. I’ll make a separate post in a bit showing why.

Couldn’t zap this note btw!

Yeah I'm still using WoS and I think that's impacting zaps, but Au zaps should still work.

I'm what some would call a 'prepper', always have been. The gold/silver thing I think has had its day, how many people today would know how to tell if it's real? Or would trust it? I don't think many at all. Barter, tools, skills, experience, that's all useful in an emergency situation. People would accept tobacco, alcohol, medicines over gold or silver.

Cyberattack by government is the most likely scenario, administratively shutting off most internet for most people to save democracy, women's rights and the pygmy possum. (And their own power and middlemen's profits).

Self-custody your files, and keep a copy of https://github.com/opsdisk/the_cyber_plumbers_handbook around. Also #Tor, #bittorrent, #ipfs, #bitcoin and #monero.

Other preps mentioned don't hurt, either!

By foreign governments or your own? 🤔

The real threat is always our own. Other governments don't have physical access unless they invade.

If you’ve read the Critical Infrastructure Bill it gives gov special powers to take over any Org to which it applies in the event of a major breach. That’s a one-way path to some REALLY bad outcomes where they can continue justifying their operating a telco or a bank or whatever they want by just telling the public “it’s an emergency”.

We saw how they abused powers during Covid under the guise of emergency - imagine what they could do with these powers..

You’re right though about domestic, if we had extended interruptions it would be obvious who is behind it but imagine trying to tell Aussie normies that…

Meta, Insta, YT and eBay will be available, along with govt and banking sites, and the two big supermarket chains. PornHub with a licence, but the rules will change constantly.

Normies would totally accept this under just the usual excuses, no unusual levels of deception required.

Its only money that stops them doing this already. Looking cool in front of America used to be important too, but attitudes to free speech among elite Americans are changed.

“You can only watch trans and cuck porn” - AusGov lol

Bread and circuses for the normies!

Far too many people will accept Digital ID being associated to all these services but I think there’ll be a dissident movement when that comes in if only because the parasites can’t help themselves and will be too heavy-handed in censoring and banning and probably arresting people when they have easy tools to do so.

It’s one thing to block 4chan at the ISPs, and one thing to deplatform SovCits and Qtards, it’s another thing entirely to have normies and boomers kicked off FB or Xitter because they spread “misinformation” which just opposes the official narrative.

There will be a dissident movement, and the Great Rabbit-Proof Firewall will be poorly implemented because it will be designed by a parliamentary committee based on the time-tested principles of "ooh shiny" and "my expert needs another junket to study that".

I've found the Cyber Plumber's Handbook more useful than Tor for helping ppl get through really bad mojo govt firewalls. SSH is everywhere, and ownership is as plausibly deniable as a set of spanners :)

“Great Rabbit-Proof Firewall” 😂😂🤣🤣

🤌

Same reasoning (inverted) is why I fear the Aussie CBDC - they outsourced it to the private sector, broke it up into a bunch of sections and had them all collaborate on parts where they had expertise. That’s how you know Gov are serious about making the system work, they didn’t just use it as an opportunity for rorting like they usually would have.

There is no scenario where a large scale internet outage persists. Everyone benefits from the Internet. Everyone’s interests would be aligned in restoring it.

Plus, in such a scenario, legions of young men would suddenly appear, ready to help. What else are they going to do? Sit in their mom’s basement NOT playing Call of Duty and watching porn?
