I think what I would prefer instead is a like button that also zaps if enabled in settings. One tap like and zap.
Would a view counter be also sufficient instead of a like?
How would that look like?
One example: It could be a relay feature, that counts the downloads of a note, and can send it as an extra information to clients. But I guess it shall be anonymized for privacy purposes.

I am thinking of a new field next to zaps.
So you would have comment, like, zap, "impression count". This would be a number which shows you how many people saw your post.
Amethyst already has something like this.

I guess there is a difference between seeing and saying you seen something.
Somehow the second conveys a meaning from the person who says he saw it.
The first is an information for the author how many people reacted from the people who saw it.
So the second one has a "deeper" meaning. But then it shall not be a like, but rather something else to show the difference for usage, maybe? Not sure.
Yeah. Twitter (I think) and Reddit have that. When you post you can see how many viewed the post.
That’d be interesting to see, but probably not scalable. We can’t even get an accurate subscriber count, so getting an accurate count for every single note across every single relay might be challenging.
Wouldn’t that necessitate a native client wallet?
Yeah I’m not so in to the only zaps. I think there is good reason to do unpaid reactions. Not the least of which is in most clients a zap isn’t a single tap. Even then sometimes you just want to give props. Or some folks don’t have satoshis. Better to ask folks to setup a wallet to receive than to send/spend.

I’m still testing it out. I hear what you’re saying. I find likes to be an interesting impression metric. I think they have more value in smaller numbers to the user.
Also, it’s refreshing when you first jump on nostr and actually find you can get engagement with others on the platform as a newbie.
Why not a single sat? You could zap 3000+ times before it costs you a dollar?
I get it’s many more clicks than a like…
Because then you’ve just substituted a like with a super cheap zap that acts like a like. What’s the point?
You have to earn sats. Likes are free.
Once I can single tap zap perhaps I’ll change my mind.
I’m also not liking it now zaps are reduced to a regular interaction instead of feeling special in larger amounts - like you’ve actually earned them instead of it feeling transactional.
I think you can, using #[5] LNLink. But same, for simplicity reasons, wos would be great. Still think 1sat replies are better then any like or “read” ping.
Acknowledging replies is a good purpose for likes, but then again it's not a like then anymore, is it? It's more "ack" or "I see you". Maybe the "like" functionality should exist only for that purpose. Only make it visible in notifications, maybe?
