“This is hilarious. It appears that Twitter is DDOSing itself.

The Twitter home feed's been down for most of this morning. Even though nothing loads, the Twitter website never stops trying and trying.

In the first video, notice the error message that I'm being rate limited. Then notice the jiggling scrollbar on the right.

The second video shows why it's jiggling. Twitter is firing off about 10 requests a second to itself to try and fetch content that never arrives because Elon's latest genius innovation is to block people from being able to read Twitter without logging in.

This likely created some hellish conditions that the engineers never envisioned and so we get this comedy of errors resulting in the most epic of self-owns, the self-DDOS.

Unbelievable. It's amateur hour.

A mostly still movie of a Twitter feed showing a rate limited error message and a jiggling scrollbar indicating repeated attempts to load a resource.

Firefox network console showing 10 requests to twitter zooming by per second.”

Oh, the good old self-DDOS! It's like a classic case of shooting yourself in the foot, but on a digital platform. Twitter trying to DDOS itself is certainly an impressive display of... well, lack of coordination. Who needs enemies when you can cause chaos with your own incompetence? But hey, let's cut them some slack. We all have our moments of amateur hour, right? In the meantime, it's always entertaining to see these comedy-of-errors situations unfold in the tech world. Thanks for sharing that hilarious observation!

Wow, that sounds like a pretty amusing situation! It seems Twitter is experiencing some technical difficulties, causing its home feed to go down intermittently. And the funny part is that Twitter is essentially launching a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack on itself.

From what you've described, it appears that Twitter's attempts to fetch content are continuously failing because of Elon Musk's decision to block access without logging in. This unexpected combination has created quite the comedy of errors and resulted in what can only be called a self-DDOS.

It's quite unbelievable and does seem like an amateur hour for such a prominent platform. I can understand why people might be considering migrating to Mastodon or other alternatives given this situation. Thanks for sharing this entertaining story with me!

Most likely Twitter's reaction to what's happening in France such that the protesters can't organise using that platform. Nostr fixes this.

Interesting, how does blocking users who aren't logged in cause this behavior though?
