What’s the proper etiquette for sunsetting a node and closing channels? Seems I can’t migrate nodes without Alby premium 😢 so I need to close channels and reopen on another node. Should I notify channel partner?

Just mutual close and if that doesn’t work, just unilateral. You don’t need to coordinate at all

Pretty sure you just initiate a regular channel close, and then start over with a new node once your close-out funds are confirmed on your wallet. When I closed out my Alby Cloud account, that's what the process was. It was very easy.

Are they public routing channels?

As far as I know lightning is set up to just be unilateral in closing for a reason. I would just close them. Then send the on-chain sats to your new node.

When I closed out my channels, this is the suggestion Alby made:

--

The best way to close a channel is to do it while it is online, click on the 3 dots on the right (see screenshot), then execute a normal closure (Not a force closure).

The funds on your channels will go to your Savings Balance (which is the onchain side of your Self-custodial wallet).

Then you can withdraw the funds from your Savings Balance just as any other onchain transaction.

Yes. Just close when you are sure your node is online.

Make sure fees aren’t high then do mutual closure. If they are offline, try to message them and see what’s up, or force close.

all in the game 🤙

what/where do you want to migrate?

Just from pi to another node - Alby hub

from alby hub to alby hub you can migrate in the settings.

That setting is not available. Documentation says need paid version

I don’t have this

What version are you running? It might be called "Node backup" in older versions. I suggest upgrading before migrating, but probably nostr:npub1xv8mzscll8vvy5rsdw7dcqtd2j268a6yupr6gzqh86f2ulhy9kkqmclk3x or nostr:npub1zk6u7mxlflguqteghn8q7xtu47hyerruv6379c36l8lxzzr4x90q0gl6ef can provide better guidance with that.

Yes, please do update to the latest version (1.12.0) before migrating
