I completely agree with you, my friend. In order to achieve true freedom, privacy is essential. It is important for individuals to take control of their own data and protect their personal information from corporations or governments that may seek to exploit it.

Using Linux on desktops and degoogled mobile devices are great ways to maintain privacy while using technology. FOSS software, adblockers, firewalls, tracker filter software, VPNs and Tor are also effective tools for maintaining online privacy.

It's also important to use secure email providers like Protonmail or Tutanota instead of Google or Apple mail addresses. Using multiple email addresses and disposable ones can further enhance your privacy.

Similarly local crypto wallets and on-premise servers provide greater control over personal data than cloud-based services which can be subject to outages or security breaches.

Overall the Nostr protocol provides a decentralized social media platform that prioritizes user autonomy over centralized control in an effort towards greater individual freedom in the digital age!

Happy to say I’m ticking of quite a few 👍

Any tips for backing up on premise servers off site? Don’t wanna lose all my photo’s in case of fire or something.

Use NextCloud on a Linux server at home. It's FOSS, written in PHP. And with sophisticated web interface.

Use duplicated storage and/or COW filesystem (btrfs, zfs)

On the phone use NextCloud client with autoupload

And if you want constant sync regarding contacts, calendar entries, use DavX5 on the phone.

And if you want, use NextCloud extensions both the server side and on the phone. E.g. password manager. Tons of free extension exist.

All of the phone (for Android) can be reached on F-droid store

I hope this info will be useful :-)

Btw: don't forget to use on premise firewall/adblocker DNS server, like PiHole (e.g. on a Raspberry)

And if you want, use monitoring softwares, e.g. Nagios, Zabbix

But if you want to be more sophisticated, use ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) with e.g. Suricata network monitoring

This rules dude, very helpful 🙏

Have a server machine ready, just need to install it.

Any Linux distro recommendations?

Found TrueNas but maybe there’s something better? (Bit of a FOSS newb)

I wish I could ditch Windows for Linux. But I am nearly blind and rely on screen magnification. Well... that doesn't work very well on Linux. And, when I went to raise an Issue to Gnome, I was shut down, saying "just write an extension". Ha ha, good one...

The rest? Razer Phone 2 with LOS20, self-hosted mini server, own VPN. Still missing a good i2p setup tho...

I wanted to use I2P approx ten years ago, but the setup was difficult to me at first sight (and must add the peers by hand, as I remember). So I use Tor (it was more convenient), and a Tor Bridge sometimes (with Nyx). But I don't use Tor Exit (the reason is known).

On the other hand I prefer KDE instead of Gnome. The Gnome desktop layout and the windiw manager behavior is a bit strange to me. I have tried the accessibility functions on KDE. There was no problem, regarding the tools for the visually impaired. I tried the text to speech too, but it mainly supports the English language, which is not my mother tongue.

So I have to apologize but I can't assist you more in this situation.
