I’ve only been orange pilled for 6 months but even I know increasing the data size limits is a terrible idea.

Though, maybe Adam Back’s middle way is a kind of ok compromise?

What can I do besides run Knots? I don’t have a big enough social presence in the space to make a difference.

Honestly there's many ways. Me personally I haven't updated my Core node. I would research who are the people behind Knots before jumping into it. I don't fully trust them because of their past history, but knots is a good option if you're a power user that's looking for extra tools. But if you're just going to run a node for yourself find an older copy of core. I mine directly to my node for my smaller miners. Also its newer features is maintained by fewer peeps so be at attention. But there is slowly more people working on it.

Also don't fall for the Ocean mining and Datum being superior to Stratum V2 if you're mining. Stratum V2 is open-source and Oceans backend isn't. So be wary of the conflict of interests for Luke Dashjr.

I’m just getting started running my own node, so I’ve been trying to figure out the safest route too. Appreciate your breakdown here — super helpful to see the pros/cons laid out. For now I’m leaning toward Core just to keep things stable, but I’ll keep an eye on Knots as it matures. And yeah, totally agree on Ocean vs Stratum V2 — open source feels like the only way to go if we actually care about decentralization.

That's good! If you have any questions let me know and I can try my best to help you. If you also want to get into mining I can help you with that.

Also you running a node makes a difference. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.
