Built this little owl house in the spring but nobody moved in- basically lost hope it would ever be used

Well our youngest son went out to harvest some rosemary for the thanksgiving meal yesterday and noticed we had a new resident on the homestead.

A great horned owl! (I think)

How awesome is that! 😀

Nice

We hand one with a camera and never saw an owl, the squirrels took over and birthed a few babies, which was cute

I may or may not have evicted some squirrels from the box this summer (they eat EVERYTHING in the orchard)

Their population around here is insane with all the pecan and oak trees, so they probably just nested in one of those

They make more mess than they steal or eat, they burrow and try to hide their food and then someone else comes by finds it and then try’s to hide in a new spot and they wreck all the plants in the process

True. They drop chewed pecan shells all over our roof and clog the downspouts for our rainwater collection system

Very cool!

He's itty bitty

Amazing 😻

So cool to see an owl in a box you made😊. We've only seen one or two owls in our boxes, although we hear them often at night.

What a small, beautiful act of creating. Stuff like this makes life so much more full. You guys know how to live a great life!
