Toyota charging for service manuals is just evil.
Anyone in the auto industry know why? Seems odd.

You will own nothing and be happy. Automotive is now a saas subscription business.
Suspension as a service : https://www.motor1.com/news/730192/bmw-adaptive-m-suspension/
FFS
Everyone trying to nickel and dime everyone else. Gonna get worse when inflation destroys everyone except for the elites.
Maybe barrier of entry so ppl don't fuck in their cars?
started with bmw’s subscription model to use your own car, it’s gotten so much worse. buy used cars that were made before 2005, less computer and tracking. more reliability
Weren’t they trying to SaaS heated seats or something? Bonkers.
It would be a shame if someone found a way to make that free and open for everyone to source and use.
This is bullshit. It’s beyond evil.
Wtf 🤬
I am in auto restoration so I guess I can speak on this a bit. Only their auth dealerships have full access. Independent shops pay for subs for full access. Plebs have to pay for access. It's.. just a matter of need and like any business, it's business.
2200 for a year 🤣
Can't speak as much to light vehicle OEMs, but in the medium & heavy duty space, that's standard practice. It's mainly intended to price out independent repair shops who often can't afford paying thousands of $$ in multiple OEM tech pub subscriptions every year. Vehicle owners & independent shops lose; dealers & OEMs win.
Now that makes sense!
Free service manuals ^
My mom has a few year old toyota rav4, they require her to pay a monthly fee to use the remote start....
Standard practice for almost all OEMs, but should be easy to find pirated copies on Russian sites.
Hosting isn''t free so I can understand a portion of the logic even if the costs they have are too high. That being said, they should not impede other sites from hosting copies should they so choose
Printing paper manuals and shipping them around is a hell of a lot more expensive than hosting a few PDFs
why sell a manual with permanent access (one time payment) when you can make people subscribe for continued access (consistent income)…. the math is mathing Cotton.
i have a mopped 50cc an my dad dugged up the maintenance manual from a 25+ year old motor shop. photo copy on paper.....
Yes you got a Point.
(ps yamaha fs1)
WTF? Sickening
If it’s a 100 series, I got you. https://lc100e.github.io/
The newer the vehicle the more likely you need technical information to service your vehicle. Simple things like replacing brake pads and bleeding brake systems require specific instructions AND a bidirectional scan tool.
I would recommend alldata.com for service information on your vehicle.
I would recommend a scan tool by TOPDON. The topscan pro is an inexpensive full capability scan tool. The purchase price includes the databases for a year. The tool runs $100 and is on sale often.
