Someone still being able to reply is absolutely horrifying for a female on Nostr when she's being threatened with violence & the mute/block doesn't even work efficiently, a user can still see the abusive responses across the board - it's one of the greatest downfall of Nostr. Absolutely the dark side of internet behavior.

Do you struggle in identifying m/f on the internet?
I interact with plenty of accounts that are pseudonymous and have genderless names. So yes, in those cases I do. But it's irrelevant, so it's not a struggle by any means since I don't bother trying.
Also, you can keep both your identity and location private.
That way, you don’t have to worry about threats of violence. You can just laugh at them.
Personally I don’t care about people’s identity or any personal characteristics. I don’t even care if they’re a human or not.
We should try to avoid a world where being a clauset female is the only practical way to use Nostr. Client-side muting is the only thing that works in a decentralized system. But it could be enhanced with social-graph based reputation management. E.g. if a friend-of-a-friend marks someone as a mysogenist, you wouldn't see their replies. And perhaps more generally clients could filter replies on a post from person B based on their knowdlegde of who B considers hostile. By default that is, e.g. for CSW I would want to turn that feature off. In general it risks amplifying filter bubbles.
If I mute you, I won't see your responses, but other people will see them. This is fine for me, but this may not be fine for everyone. 🫂
