bitcoin core has reasonably fast sync

but absolutely abysmal real security and usability

now that i understand how this shit actually works, sure, i'm gonna sync the chain once, with a 20gb limited pruning wallet, as a system service, and then i'm going to use a wallet that uses the server as a client

i hate btcd and roasbeef but he has more brain than the fuckers that build bitcoin core

i'm not surprised any more that lukedashjr had his coins ripped off because it's so easy to not have them secured if you can't sit with a pen and paper and write down a seed and put that back in later

i can't fucking believe what the fuck i'm seeing here

i even tried to get it to show me my xprv but nope... lots of xpubs but no xprv

yes wallet was unlocked

this is not security, this is serious UX hell

this is good news, damn man!! hope you got er. alias rm=/bin/false till then 😅

yeah, this has been a hard lesson and now every time i hear someone say "use bitcoin core" i instantly don't trust them and will turn right off and change the channel and put them on mute maybe even

i'm gonna ruffle some feathers over this, i'm not going to stop talking about this for a while

bitcoin core wallet does not let you make a backup of your wallet seed on paper, in any way, shape or form

-nowallet Yep, I refuse to use bitcoin-core as a wallet. I like having a verified copy of the chain locally though, and obviously it's needed for lightning if you don't want to connect to public nodes.

yeah, its wallet code is a tire fire, i had no idea how bad until i got into a panic thinking i had lost my keys because it used to be a thing that you lost your coins if you lost your latest wallet

of course i didn't stay up to date because in 2019 i was earning zero money and writing code for my supper and i didn't have any FUCKING MONEY to actually have any bitcoin

did i mention i had no money? yes, and i'm a programmer, and i was working in an internship capacity, to master building this blockchain stuff, and i became a PoW coin maxi and a few years later became a bitcoin maxi because i realised the ourouboros problem of staking and then the whole shitcoin scene went to rust and i tried to learn rust and it was the most unpleasant 6 weeks of my life, while at the same time i was perfectly qualified to TEACH how to build golang stuff

im toxic about this stuff because this stuff is toxic and manipulative

in future i'm not letting bitcoin core handle my wallet... btcd design was correct, keep it separated... i'll instal bitcoind, and find a wallet that uses bip39 and stores nothing on disk and have the word key on paper in a couple of secure places and that's how i'm going to unlock my master key and access my coins

i just sat through a full 24 hours watching paint dry only to learn that all of this effort and energy i'm expending to do this is a waste of time because i already have the damn wallet, i just need the chain, and then i can bump it to another address whatever and fuck bitcoin core

fuck bitcoin core

i hate bitcoin core

i hate peter todd, i bet this was all his idea

Why not use the wallet.dat in sparrow and just point sparrow at someone else's node?
