I don't think quitting is the solution, you should make social media work for you. But in most cases it's the other way around and that's the real problem. When you've found a way to let social media work for you, they change the rules of the game and you can start over...

Since even just logging in to centralized social media gives the corporation data to sell, the artists are "hurting" more than themselves. Also, most of those corporations claim ownership of works uploaded to their platform. If artists finally woke up to that concept, better late than never.
Yes, they immediately lose audience. But also, the social media sites lose them. And so then social media sites lose some of their followers. And that is a move in the right direction.
Social media sites are aggregators. But we don't need them to aggregate, we have "bookmarks".
