It doesn’t just come from the ether
Discussion
I don't need to go "I think the sky is red" to come to the conclusion "the sky is blue," that's silly.
The refinement of truth is through people with honest perspectives butting their perspectives against each other. Not from dishonest pretense.
Devils advocacy isn’t dishonest pretense, per se
Devil's advocacy is dishonest pretense by definition.
The "Devil" part of the phrase is standing in for a view that you, yourself, believe is wrong.
Not always
Literally by definition.
Not everything is taken literally
Speak for yourself.
That’s not a personal comment, it’s a factual comment.
1. I take things quite literally, and I speak quite literally
2. I really don't know what definition of "devil's advocacy" you are using then.
Devil's advocacy is when you take a position you do not actually hold, usually one you acknowledge is false, but which has argumentative use if you engage in the pretense of pretending it's a view you hold for the sake of argument.
The only way you know it’s blue is by having seen and studied blue. For then it’s: “what is this? Is it this? Is it that? It’s this, wait noooo… it’s that.”
