as somebody with a 64 GB iPhone, this is rather crazy 😅💜
i’m sure a solution is currently being made and i’m really excited for it 🙏

I cleared the cache recently and it removed 5GB
Click on Clear Cache in Appearance & Filters in Damus
Could there be an automatical function for it?
You customise a limit, 10GB for example and then it cleares cache or something 🤔
Just checked and I’m 10gb. Gnarly.
I’m only at 800mb. Not sure what I’m doing different, if anything.
We need to get nostr:npub1t3ggcd843pnwcu6p4tcsesd02t5jx2aelpvusypu5hk0925nhauqjjl5g4 a new phone 📱
that would be incredible kind, but there’s so many more incredible people and projects deserving of these funds 🙏💜
That would be awesome for Tanel, but this is pointing to a bigger problem, and it’s the reason I am still on twttr as well. Many of my followers, and
many (most?) people globally live in areas with expensive data/internet and/or are priced out of high-storage smart phones.
While I realize the latter doesn’t matter as much, since many nostr clients are browser based, the expensive data prevents them from even using nostr online..
Curious to hear anyone’s thoughts on this. I believe I read a while back that devs are working on ways to reduce nostr data usage, and I assume connecting to less relays helps?
I have some ideas in mind for this
nostr:npub1xpuz4qerklyck9evtg40wgrthq5rce2mumwuuygnxcg6q02lz9ms275ams nostr:npub1m0sxqk5uwvtjhtt4yw3j0v3k6402fd35aq8832gp8kmer78atvkq9vgcru we need to have a call soon
Absolutely. Next release of yana is in the works, and will feature an outbox model which will fetch notes from your contacts only from a small number (configurable) of relays. And also will cache recent events on local db, taking special care not to let it bloat out of proportion like other clients. It's a fine line to find the best balance between network data usage and device storage but I agree it is very important for people with restricted data plans and older devices with limited storage in less privileged places in the world. So it will be our focus developing it.

Are the cache timeouts working nostr:npub13v47pg9dxjq96an8jfev9znhm0k7ntwtlh9y335paj9kyjsjpznqzzl3l8 ? Maybe they need to be more aggressive
The cache timeout mechanism itself should be working. I remember testing with locally modified low expiry values to make sure things are getting automatically deleted.
However, I don’t have data on how well the current values will keep the storage usage under control
I’ll send a patch with more aggressive values. Maybe we should also do a longer term test by manually collecting data usage info from our phones every few days to check how well it performs in real circumstances.
nostr:npub1t3ggcd843pnwcu6p4tcsesd02t5jx2aelpvusypu5hk0925nhauqjjl5g4, nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s, I started testing a new Damus version with more aggressive cache values to check if storage usage will improve over time 🤙
yes, you delete the app and reinstall (bookmarks, thank you for your service)
something something listr nostr:npub1zuuajd7u3sx8xu92yav9jwxpr839cs0kc3q6t56vd5u9q033xmhsk6c2uc
but there’s still the question of how to import them after reinstalling
Clear cache brother! :) under appearance and filters setting 💜
ꉂ🤣𐤔 I've had that same problem, but my data didn't swell that big.
You can just delete the app then re-install it, since cache deletion may not work well. (Make sure you have your nsec in the key-chain beforehand.)
