The Bluesky version isn't good. I might have been a recommended user for like 2 seconds, maybe 0 before I became the most blocked user on bluesky and ultimately got banned.
The community there is so allergic to quality, I got almost no replies or likes or reposts despite thousands and thousands of people having the time and energy to give me a block or subscribe to a block list with me in it.
lists work just fine for that
We have the building blocks to make it work, but we don’t have a set of standards so multiple apps could use them, a few apps could help create them. We also don’t great lists in Nostr as a kind of object you can see, inspect, share, clone, etc…. could easily be done, but we haven’t done it yet.
I agree, no more NIPs for this. Plenty of composable parts already (lists, curated relays, hashtags).
Ideally client devs focus on retention metrics.
If not third-party community members could target new users through initial profile events or first post actions.
I guess many users would happily contribute lists and relays for noobs.
I'm warming to the idea of them. Bluesky has this awful blocklist culture, so I've been leery of lists, that said, something that had a handful of people to follow, some relays, a client, a signer, etc would be cool
I like lists and the potential to use them for filtering. I don't like blocking people too much though. Maybe we should try to call the nostr version "filter lists" to suggest you should use them to filter posts from a feed, not entire people from your awareness.
To be clear, this seems to be a new thing from after I was banned, I just know the Bluesky community is too anti-woke for it to be good.

I just don't love the mass blocks and blocking people you've never interacted with just because someone else you've never met put them on a list. I understand this is somewhat of a gray area, and there are probably lists of people that need to be blocked, but Bluesky has this weird culture of celebrating these blocklists. I just don't want that on Nostr. I do like the term "starter pack", less technical, reminds me of a trading card game or something
I was the #1 most blocked person on bluesky when I was there and a lot of it was just people who run blocklists putting me in every block list they could think of regardless of whether I actually fit there or not. I feel you. But I can't wait to have the tables turned where all of those people can be filtered out at the flip of a switch, and I want to embarrass them by ensuring when they're not the only ones with that power anymore, they're still the only ones using it maliciously.
