Apple users, now Is not the time be flashy and proud of your iphone, switch to an open source degoogled OS ASAP.

Some of you may disagree and may not like my post, you are free to ignore at your own peri.

Others who are aware of the Siri secret recordings and data selling, non opt-in features collecting all your photos and screen recordings, and all the other follies this company is making knowingly, RUN.

I have nothing more to say, you have a lot more to be proud of than a phone brand.

proud I've never owned an Apple product

I worked in a mac store for a while and used my employee discount to get one of those 80 gigabyte brick ipods. Genuinely miss that device.

Not gonna lie, it was weird being a Linux / Windows guy doing tech support in Apple Store.

I had the iPhone 3GS and jail broke it a long time ago. And I had the, I think it was the original iPad mini for a while. I remember using up to iOS 5 or 6 on the iPhone 3GS. It was the very first version that had iMessage and then I think the latest version I had on the iPad was like iOS 9.

Nobody uses iPhones to be flashy and proud of them… only an android user would say this 🤣

Apple has created a genuinely good experience and has a lot of good privacy features like browsing through relays, blocking trackers etc … there’s a lot of great UX especially for backup and restore convenience, family accounts etc. open source OS doesn’t have much if any of this - and the features they do have tend to be tedious and complex.

The photo location feature is definitely a huge fail. Not even going to defend that. My hope is that they fix this asap and stop don’t this kind of nonsense. It ruins their brand.

I don’t know anything about Siri recordings and I highly doubt any of this is true- it would be a huge breach of privacy. But, I also don’t use Siri, never have, and never plan on it.

I also have a degoogled android and frankly the UX sucks. It’s passable but far from ideal. Google in general produces shit designs including material design. But, I still use that phone and I definitely like the open ethos over apples closed ecosystem.

I don’t know why people get up in arms over cloud backups. No one should be storing any sensitive photos in the first place … the backups are convenient - even though they tie you into a subscription. As a rule of thumb I just don’t take any photos that I would not be willing to show to someone casually - like an acquaintance.

👍

Not a proud user, proceeds to write 5 paragraphs about how good a phone brand is 😂

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/siri-civil-lawsuit-settlement-apple-iphone-eavesdropping/

I’ll write 3 words next time 🤦‍♂️

Siri: settle claims …

That would be one wild use for law cases. Especially on the #US side. Imagine the companies affected by this.

One way to make sure we never really find out, and apple fanatics like this cat can keep reminding them from the point of view of plausible deniability.

Legally it’s sticky but I’m sure there has been plenty of cases to show the public. Right? Thinking 🤔 ( pardon me, it’s been a LONG time )

You were free to ignore

Hate to break it to you but settlements aren’t admission of guilt. Not saying they didn’t do this - maybe they did but this article doesn’t prove anything.

Drink the kool-aid

It's not an admission of guilt, but it most definitely shows that they're not willing to try and prove their innocence.

Not really. There are real downsides to dragging a big brand through the mud, guilty or not.

Incorrect, Apple UX is a horror show from beginning to end.

Try and troubleshoot Apple products with any boomer - it's a living nightmare.

Good day 🫡

that's my dad's experience with iphone, he can't use it

Yeah it's nuts, and they pay a premium for the hardware too... I worked for a tech support company over the lockdown period (as a means of legally leaving my house) and I was shocked at how bad the Apple-boomer experience was.

Also, I don't know how that company weasled it's way into education with iPads.. as a primary school teacher - they are the shittiest product in existence.

Could not disagree more. Lots of room for improvement but not nearly as bad as you say.

It's much, much worse than I say sir 🙂

I like to be impartial for most things, but I can't for this one.. the Apple ecosystem has been delivered to us straight from depths of hell.

Can you quantity the number of boomers you have helped with Apple products? I'm over 1000 easy... (definitely not a brag 😂)

Congrats on helping boomers, I’m in a different line of work. Sure wish I could compete with your helpfulness.

lol thanks man.. I'm actually a primary school teacher - Apple has screwed me from that end for years too..

(I've actually tried really really hard to get on board with crapple.. the lack of interoperability kills the agnosticism though) I reckon it's awesome if your 1 person with multiple apple devices that talk to themselves maybe?

just takes a slightly more intelligent creature to operate outside the norm and take control of everything in their life. sadly many corporations take advantage of this

It has nothing to do with intelligence

bla bla bla yapper

"Nobody uses iPhones to be flashy and proud of them… only an android user would say this 🤣"

Everyone buys iPhones just to show off in most other countries other than the US. I have a friend, who was begging everywhere for 30k INR to settle some loan, makes 50k INR a month, but bought an iPhone for 85k just to show off.

Apple products are luxury items in most parts of the world

i had a friend in Serbia who got an iphone S i forget which model, 6 or 7, her reason was the quality of the camera, her regular phone choice was android ofc

The Siri recordings are most likely true, they're going to pay a settlement fine for it:

Does anyone at all just use a phone cause it’s a tool we “need” in modern life ? I bet if someone is using a feature phone cause that’s all functionality they need then social media argument snobs will be like “they want to appear strong and independent and only do it for the image” what a useless discussion to have (I’m aware I’m participating 🤣) I’m typing this on iPhone 7 that costed me 100 bucks and survives being dropped on the floor regularly. Why don’t I buy a new android for 200? Cause I’d have to gag at shitty UX every time I touch it 😅 good UX is a part of a tool being functional.

Apple users:

I would if I could. Last time I tried I wrecked my phone. It's still laying there without an OS. I'm a bit scared to try again.

How did you do it? The web wizard worked great for me
