If Relay were to host images, it would necessitate the development of a universal censorship tool, which is clearly unfavorable.
Thus, maintaining the separation between text and images is preferable imo.

100% agree. Image and video hosting should be integrated, not a job of relays. I think relays should focus solely on the *nostr* data. I think we gain greater censorship resistance & adaptability if we segment.
