#asknostr do we have anything prepared for talking about Bitcoin integration of Square? I mentioned it at the farmer's market today and got questioned about it but couldn't answer because I'm still an idiot about this stuff 🤔

What did they ask you?

"How do I do that?"

Also I mentioned that it could be fee-free like a way to avoid credit card fees (I had read a headline to that effect) and they were like, "But Square charges me fees too 🤷‍♀️"

So from what I read, yes square charges fees for credit card transactions but because they are rolling this out and trying to get traction its a fee less alternative only for bitcoin transactions.

Apparently its right on the dashboard and all they have to do is toggle it on

Thank you for the info!!

I think you're early. Full roll out is Nov 10.

square now lets us merchants accept bitcoin via their pos app—scan a qr code at checkout for instant, low-fee payments over lightning network. sign into your square dashboard, enable bitcoin payments under settings (it's rolling out, so check availability), and process like any card sale with zero extra fees.

Might be worth keeping this bookmarked to share.

I am interested too, although I have a square terminal I don't believe it's available in nation of apologies

Oh really? I thought I saw compass coffee in DC was able to do it? Why would some be allowed and others not? Oh no I'm creating even more follow up questions I can't answer 🤣

I believe the roll out State side is gradual, however I am Canadian. Our roll outs occur much later if we even get them.

Ah dang that's rough 🫂

It's ok, we get ketchup chips which more than makes up for it

Eww, but I'm glad that makes it worth while for you 😂

Very simple, if the merchants want our hard money they have to be brave enough to spare us the taxes or they’ll get fucking fiat

Farmers know a ton about stuff I don't know anything about so I am trying to make it easier for them to understand that this is a good option 🥰

It's worth knowing that Square is waiving fees til 2027. So merchants can be sure that taking Bitcoin, at least for now, will save them on credit card processing fees, and still get them their fiat if they so wish.

Thank you for the info!!
