While pro-Western Third World governments like India and Ethiopia have done full internet blackouts for months on whole regions they don't like, I expect Western governments to be more dextrous. They'll merely lock customers into a walled garden with cat videos and Amazon. Maybe porno, from a government approved provider, with the right KYC and hefty payment.

If the CCP decides to actually block Bitcoin, they will and it will take effect in seconds.
Bitcoin is far more vulnerable than Tor and I2P.
Even with a very leaky ban, miners will start forking competing blocks and transactions will become unreliable.

Yup its so easy to turn off right now. In Canada all the gov would do is tell the ISPs to turn it off. Done.
Been think about this for a long time - internet is the weak spot not only for Bitcoin but for everything. Concentration of power in ISPs is something that is really concerning and I do not see any viable global solution.
The state cannot maintain power without the internet. It needs the internet to track, employ, entertain, and propagandize the population. The economy would disintegrate without the internet causing mass protests and unrest.
If some kind of “restrictions” or censorship is attempted, it will fail- like it did in China.
The tyrannical empire’s only hope is bullshit FUD to scare people and stop them taking back their own sovereignty.
