For those that primarily work from home and/or remotely - How do you find focus in your day? I’ve been doing this for 3 years now which is crazy to think about but I’m still admittedly not very good at staying focused on the task at hand. Twitter/nostr/telegram/bitcoin price/routing node/cleaning/eating, etc. etc.

I’m very good at distracting myself and getting distracted. Tips? Tricks? What works and what doesn’t for you?

What is your work environment like? Separate room or desk area?

Do you have a separation of work and home…within home.

Not everyone can afford to do this or have the luxury of doing this I know.

Good question, I don’t really have a space for an ‘office’ of sorts but do have my desk/computer in a finished attic space that also acts as our daughters playroom and guest bed. Haha. Small house problems. It is a dedicated space but not solely for my office. I’d imagine separating the two as best as possible really helps focusing on work during ‘work time’

Yeah it may seem like a small thing but it helps. My work area is also my general computer area and when I’m done with work the work laptop goes in a drawer and my personal one gets plugged into my dock.

It’s still a challenge I won’t doubt that.

I also work remotely. Basically what I do is set a goal to finish my tasks first and then reward myself with 5-10 minutes of social networking. And when I get frustrated, instead of picking up the phone I do weights and go back to work hahaha

Agreed dumbbells in between video calls or frustrating moments is key for me

That’s a good one

I actually tried this for a bit and lost consistency but I like it a lot. Push-ups instead of grabbing my phone when my brain is looking for something to distract it from the task at hand. Thanks!

I’ve been working remotely for over 10 years and I would say the key elements are: timeblocking, inbox zero and change of environment as needed… and enjoying what you do helps too 😄oh and… I do have to put Damus away sometimes lol

I like this. Can you elaborate on the time blocking and inbox zero? I have noticed getting out of the house simply to a coffee shop every now and then can help spur motivation for me

Spur motivation and stay focused I should say *

For sure that time outside of your reg work area is key. Inbox zero is all about filtering content so you aren’t staring at an inbox piled high with tasks. This is an oldie but still has some good stuff in it https://youtu.be/z9UjeTMb3Yk and time blocking is using your calendar is reasonable blocks to keep you on track and avoid distractions. It’s like a scheduled to-do list…

I’m going to watch the video, I can relate so much to the concept of staring at piled high tasks and choosing to distract myself from them because there are so many, instead of digging in. Thank you!

That’s your mind trying to tell you something. Do what you love and you’ll have no problem staying focused.

Almost coincidentally odd as I’m sitting here on my computer working on my fiat job. How do I find what I love?

Simple. What distracts you? Follow the distractions.

It does sound simple when you put it that way
