Started reading "Dilla Time" this week. Have always dound hip hop unappealing (focus on vocals / bravado culture etc) but have read books on its history because subcultures are super interesting.
Heard quite a few Dilla beats as a result, and it's definitely some great stuff.
Anyone know if there's a subgenre of no-vocal hip hop that isn't so wacky like Flying Lotus etc?

I like flying Lotus, but the Beastie Boys did a good instrumental album called The Mix Up that you may enjoy.
