Do you want to know what really grinds my gears?!

When someone says “the market will decide”.

It seems to imply that whatever happens is inevitable, rather than a result of decisions made by policymakers or corporations.

If you’re analytical, it feels dismissive. It shuts down further conversation, as if there’s no point in exploring how to influence or improve the system.

I think it reflects a passive, overly simplistic mindset.

I agree, the market is just individuals exchanging information about preferences. Those preferences are obviously shaped by other forces and worth discussing. I am the market, you are the market, we are the market.

Yeah you find that a lot with Bitcoin Maxis too

Seems like a retreat to a religious mentality to me where higher forces are responsible.

which is true to a certain extent,

but lacks nuance as you say

Exactly

You may be misinterpreting it. It is more akin to an old stoic saying do not worry about things that are outside of your ability to control.

You can spend every waking hour researching charts, trends, news, and do everything to make educated financial decisions. The lawmakers and corporations will do the same. However shit always happens. Good shit. Bad shit. There is always going to be a level of uncertainty.

So when people say the market will decide. Just know that it is what is going to happen is going to happen. Whether you want it to, or not.

Agreed. It’s a bizarre type of fatalism.

What that means is that each individual will make up their own mind, for their own reasons, in their own way, at their own leisure, as free individuals.

Zoom out, and a pattern will emerge. That is the market deciding.
