I’m thinking about doing an experiment. I currently have zero fiat. Starting January 1st, I want to see how long I can live off of 1 bitcoin. I’ll use nostr:npub1ex7mdykw786qxvmtuls208uyxmn0hse95rfwsarvfde5yg6wy7jq6qvyt9 bill pay to pay bills. I wonder if I could live off of 1 bitcoin indefinitely? 🤔

Do it and diary it on nostr in long and short form. None of that X nonsense now ya hear!

Haha “Today I spent 10,000 sats paying my electric bill…now down to .842069 bitcoin.” Sounds like a fascinating read 😂

That is an expense report I would pour over! This is a very interesting time to conduct the experiment, just as it crosses $100k.

Wonderfully easy round number to correlate to a fiat stack.

True. I’m going to start using their bill pay this weekend and make sure I can in fact pay all my bills. 🧐 It just became available a couple hours ago for me.

That electric bill could easily be only 5,000 sats in a matter of months.

Good that you didn’t get this idea at the start of 2022.

Early 2022 I was taking out every 0% APR 12+ month credit card they would give me and buying bitcoin. I went full Saylor 🫡

FUCKING LEGEND

I meant early 2023 I did this. Bitcoin was at $20k 😅

I took it to mean that 😂

That seems like a umfun experiment. I wish you the best of luck.

Thinking about starting it in January as well.

lol EMoney is what my friends call me

We have almost the same first name (Erik)

I want to do this too - but am I unusual that I have to pay people with cash and checks still?

Nah I’m trying to figure out my rent with bill pay. Right now it’s a bank wire transfer (it used to be check only). Not sure if that’s going to work. Maybe my boomer landlord can figure out bitcoin 😂

The issue I didn't consider at first was the fees Strike charges for each transaction. If you pay a $3000 a month mortgage that adds up over time!

I didn’t realize there were bill pay transaction fees. Is it just the slippage or are there actually fees? I haven’t used it yet.

Yep they charge transaction fees based on whatever fee level you are at. I just started using it myself.

Damn that’s a lot

I was thinking along these same lines recently. If I started to pay my expenses in Bitcoin, would my stack grow in fiat terms faster than the drawdown rate after fees and taxes? nostr:npub1ex7mdykw786qxvmtuls208uyxmn0hse95rfwsarvfde5yg6wy7jq6qvyt9

I wish someone would launch a Bitcoin collateralized mortgage. That would be a game changer for me.

That would be nice.

Supposedly people’s reserve will be doing that Q1 2025. Their website doesn’t have any info on it yet though. Seems like it will be variable rate. 🤷‍♂️
