It’s good to be home for the holidays.
It works really great when price is chopping or going down. Instead of rolling up and out I’ll roll it down a bit that same week. Allows you to buy the dips at no cost to you. If price is really running up fast I will accept less money to roll up and further out in time. Start small and experiment, it’s an amazing tool if you don’t want to sell.
Happy to help. I didn’t know how it worked either until the beginning of 2025. As soon as I sell a covered call, I immediately put in an order to roll it at the premium of my choosing. I always select “Good till canceled” on the roll. When rolling a covered call, I try to get paid about half the cost of one share. So if I’m rolling an IBIT covered call I will set my price about .25 ($25).
I don’t really want to say but I am on pace to increase my amount of shares by about 50% in a year. You only need 100 shares to get started.

I’m not going to continue posting this info going forward. Hopefully anyone who saw it understands that you can perform your own “speculative attack” tax free through an IRA if you get approved for options trading. I would estimate you can comfortably increase your “stack” by 30-40% annually with very little risk. If bitcoin price goes up as well it is a win-win. Bitcoin in self custody is the revolution, but price appreciation never hurts.
I’d like to have more dialogue about covered call strategies. I keep toying with this idea of using the current financial system to Bitcoiners’ advantage. The IRA is the king vehicle for this imo because of the tax advantages. One idea I’ve had is continuously rolling the covered calls forever, then moving the premiums into another IRA where you can hold your own keys. No worries about proof of reserves, rehypothication, etc. Sort of a guerrilla warfare version of investing where you attack and retreat, attack and retreat. If anybody has any ideas or is interested please speak up.
