There's some internal discussion leaked at google which explicitly argues that no one has a moat. The resource requirements they thought might be necessary are far less important than a focus on quality results. And while it has appeared that OpenAI had a strong lead, the opensource community is iterating faster & in many ways has already surpassed them. The game is much more about quality & the number of people with a special focus than it is about broad generalized brute forced learning. AI learns and advances more like an economy grows, central planning can't win.

Interesting. If you can point me to the Google leak, I’d like to take a look and maybe raise this point

nostr:npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev is about to do a show on it, & he has been following open source developments very closely. He's the one to talk to about it.
