Some fun facts we learned.

Madeira is derived from the Portuguese for Trees, which covered the Island when it was first discovered.

The city of Funchal derives its name from the Portuguese for Fennel, which grew abundantly there.

Thanks for the facts! Yeah I knew the fennel one but not the other. Who discovered Madeira? How widespread is Bitcoin in Funchal? Can you but lunch, coffee or beer with lightning for example?

Madeira Island was officially discovered in July 1419 by Portuguese seafarers Captains João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira.
