People say things like "all voices matter." I think that's incorrect. Dissident voices matter, because disagreement leads to discussion & consideration. And maybe that's what "all voices matter" is supposed to mean, though it's not what people usually practice.

People also say "love everyone," which I think is total nonsense. Obviously, I think we should treat everyone like people, & offer a certain base level of respect. But if treating people with respect is what is meant, then why not just say respect instead of love? We are finite beings, love is only meaningful because our attention & energy are limited, & as a result love MUST be discriminatory.

All people aren't equal, all voices don't matter, & you can't love everyone so you definitely don't have to.

I think people conflate dignity and respect.

Every human is entitled to base level dignity which is why we believe in and fight for natural rights.

I respect someone that is virtuous skilled at their craft, honest, a positive influence in their community.

I do not respect everyone in fact I respect very few since this is clown world. But I do recognize the dignity in all children of god.

If respect is given to all with no proof of work it is worthless. This in my opinion was one of the most insightful themes from Ayn Rand’s work.

Well, a "base level of respect" was just the best place holder that came to mind. I think we should start with the assumption that everyone is human & treat them as such. Call that dignity or respect or whatever you want.

Yea I gleaned you feel the same based on your post I just find it incredibly strange that culturally we don’t have a distinction for something so important.

Because lowest common denominator slogans matter for low information votes and sound bites.

The above is an over simplification of course.
