This morning I’m just overwhelmed thinking about what the productivity and abundance unlocked by AI will mean for the world. Just hard to wrap my head around what it will mean for people. We need to pass the savings on to people and reduce the cost of living dramatically or we’ll be in trouble. The bitcoin standard can’t come fast enough. I suspect we’re going to see a lot of ugliness in the process.

Lol, being able to generate cat pictures or badly written (maybe generically written is a better description) articles isn't suddenly going to propel us to the stars. AI will make us slightly more productive, and slightly less creative, and we'll be on to the next hype cycle. You can bookmark this.
The vampire squid parasite that is government has grown fat off the simple trick of stealing the deflationary dividends of globalization and technological process. It's the only thing the unproductive class know how to do. They will never give that up. We are still going to be told CPI increase year on year is a "good thing" well into this decade, even as unemployment rises and real incomes fall.

I hope you're right. There's so many variables that I'm definitely cautious of jumping to any conclusions just yet but the potential for positive results is not something that should be discounted.

I was trying to envision what that ugliness would look like. Many people loosing their jobs and not being able to find another one so through fear they would elect a leader to give handouts like UBI. That would lock them into a system of servitude. It may seem like their life’s improving because as productive increases your 5% increases also but the organization issuing the value will still be keeping 95%
Once you are reduced to making the bare minimum it will be a much longer transition to a bitcoin standard. Still possible, but it will be a slow process. You can save yourself years of grief by transitioning now and allowing the fruits of increased productivity flow to you directly.
Expand what you mean by "people". Made any new friends? Machines are immortal - they only die from neglect.
If we don't get Bitcoin we will just get currency debasement.
A lot of Altman interviews touch on job losses from this tech, which will obviously accelerate as it advances.
I think he knows what they unleashed here. (It was bound to happen anyway so this is not about him or OpenAI really) so his investment in UBI research comes as no surprise at all.
