I half-agree.

Lots of devs don't talk, but they also aren't doing much, and what they do isn't very useful. I haven't seen a direct correlation. If anything, some of the chattier devs are producing more (and better) code, not less.

The idea that the best developers are all Silent Bob is a myth, and AI-assisted coding is making it even mythier.

Totally agree about the maintenance, tho.

keyword "developers" developer is FAR more than writing code or building electronics. It's a skilled position (trade job imo). Because you can replaces or repair pipes doesn't make you a plumber. It's knowing your material, showing up on time in clean clothes, having invested in a stocked van, it's knowing how to quote jobs etc.

The word developer is over applied. I don't consider myself a developer. I think we need new terms lol

I'm also not a developer. I'm more of an informatician or analyst, but I program stuff.

Who doesn't program stuff, nowadays, tho? Everyone working an Excel sheet is programming. Meaningless.
