By far the biggest challenge to online political discourse is American doublespeak.
For example, the rest of the world uses the word liberal to refer to what Americans call libertarians.
And libertarians to the rest of the world means socialists, but in USA the term socialism has absolutely nothing to do with socialism and instead just refers to social welfare under capitalism.
As long as americans are using the opposite definition to the rest of the world the discourse always just devolves into arguing about definitions.
Like communism, by definition is stateless but somehow Americans have been brainwashed to think that communism is statism.
There are many many more examples.
