Anyone working on physical coinage for #bitcoin? As in, a bank holds the btc provably but issues coins? To serve phone-less communities and markets

That sounds so familiar. Can't recall what it reminds me of

Sounds like a shitcoin you can jingle in your pocket.

It would be interesting to see if anyone solved some of the issues with that set up, but I imagine poor communities aren’t a huge money-making draw for an intermediary type business

Hal Finney?

Would you like to deposit your Bitcoin with me in exchange for some pretty homemade coins

Only if good art

Lol

But on a serious note:

If it's a "phone less" community they would be better off with goldbacks and/or silver coins.

If it's just internet they lack then there is blockstream satellite and offline POS with ln bits

Or usd, but for a while only, possibly. Just interested to see if people actually were working on this that weren’t outright scammers— might have new solutions to some of the problems with that approach

I only see this happening on the nation-state level in places where self custody is banned.

And if I'm not mistaken there is a BTC pay server plug in out there that can print out lightning vouchers.

It wouldn't surprise me see those floating around in the near future.

in time .

To this point, Hal Finney once said:

I see Bitcoin as ultimately becoming a reserve currency for banks, playing much the same role as gold did in the early days of banking. Banks could issue digital cash with greater anonymity and lighter weight, more efficient transactions.
