Ironically, NOSTR is shaping up to be a centralizing force for lightning.
I hope that I can be proved wrong on this.
Why would an individual set up a node to serve NOSTR use cases?

I’d like to understand your concern more. Can you expound?
Nostr has potential to be a killer app for lightning adoption. What exactly about it is concerning to you?
People are really enjoying the user experience enabled by LNURL and Lightning Addresses (which is awesome!), but the vast majority are operated by a few custodial services.
I'd like to see lightning be used on NOSTR from far more individual node operators with their own lightning addresses. That's the decentralized future I'd want to see.
Okay yes, I see what you’re saying. And I agree. We should be in control of our own data and our own wallets. There are circumstances for using custody, but they shouldn’t be the main use case.
Bringing my own Lightning node online this weekend. Nostr was the kick in the pants I needed to finally do it.
I’d like you to elaborate as well please. Why is NOSTR shaping up to be a centralizing force for lightning?
Almost exclusively custodial lightning wallets being used. I don't think Plebnet will be routing these zaps.
Ah, I see where you are coming from now. You’re most likely right.
Do you think there is a solution out there?
Graham Krizek from Voltage hinted that he might be able to help with this. Looking forward to seeing what he comes out with!
Yeah I have a huge issue this with, as well.
There are WAY too many people using custodial lightning on nostr
how do we Incentivize people who are new to Nostr, and don't understand lightning to run their own Lightning Nodes?
Umbrel may have figured this out by adding NOSTR relays to their nodes. One of the easiest ways to run a relay now is to set up a lightning node!
Gotta make lightning addresses easier to create that point to your own node though.
Noderunners would be a drop in the ocean relative to a moderately successful social media platform… The vast majority of users are going to have to rely on custodial Lightning - they won’t have the interest or technical ability to run a node… I agree with your point but it’s a bit like email. You can run your own email server but how many bother?
Agree. The first wave to these kinds of new technologies are super-enthusiasts and fans of the technology itself.
I use Phoenix and it works great.
I think i was more right than i wanted to be with Wallet of Satoshi acting up and causing zaps to fail!
