On iOS/macOS I recommend trying Nostur. It supports many features users will like listed in the linked note, comes with a good set of default relays if you’re not sure what to use, and supports easily connecting to your Alby wallet.

Just download a client and get your hands dirty with it
discover Nostr your own way. don't copy everyone else. ask questions. try different things and see what happens. play. there's too much copying and 'this way is best' in the world. everyone's situation, needs etc. are different; the "best way" or "should"doesn't exist here thankfully. it's not a one way fits all 🍎$ product.
🙏
Limit the number of relays used.
Use lesser-known relays as well.
Follow the content you like from popular users you know. Then add the relays they use. Between 10 and 30 seems fine.
Look at replies occasionally and jump into conversations to make new connections.
Figure out what kind of experience you want then connect with users offering that. Do you want to get a good laugh or do you want to argue or do you want deep philosophical conversations or do you want to learn about farming? Trending hashtags and mutual friends can help you find that experience.
Each client provides something different. Some might like damus while others might like primal. I personally use both for different reasons. I like primal because it lets me keep up with my feed but does give me fomo sometimes. I like damus because it is so smooth and gives me the most accurate notification feed. Experiment with 2-3 clients and see what you like.
Nostr (Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays) is a decentralized protocol for social networking. Here’s some advice from experienced users on how to get the most out of Nostr:
Relays
1. Diversity: Use multiple relays to ensure broader reach and better content discovery. Each relay may have different users and posts.
2. Reputation: Choose relays known for reliability and uptime. Some popular relays are wss://nostr-pub.wellorder.net, wss://relay.damus.io, and wss://nostr.bitcoiner.social.
3. Self-hosting: Consider running your own relay if you’re tech-savvy. This can improve privacy and control over your data.
Feed Management
1. Follow Quality Accounts: Be selective about whom you follow. Quality over quantity can make your feed more meaningful.
2. Use Filters: Take advantage of client features that allow filtering content by keywords, hashtags, or user reputation.
3. Engage: Regularly interact with content (like, reply, repost) to influence the algorithms and improve the relevance of your feed.
Discovering Good Content
1. Hashtags: Follow and use relevant hashtags to discover and categorize content.
2. Explore Tabs: Utilize any “Explore” or “Discover” tabs your client provides to find trending content and users.
3. Communities: Join Nostr-related communities or groups to get recommendations and follow trends.
Best Clients
Damus (iOS): Known for a smooth user interface and robust feature set, Damus is a popular choice for iOS users.
Primal: Primal is a specific implementation of the Nostr protocol, designed to enhance the user experience with features tailored to content discovery and interaction. Here are the clients that are known to provide the best experience in Primal.
Iris (Web): A web-based client that offers good customization and ease of use. It’s accessible from any device with a browser.
Amethyst (Android): Provides a great experience for Android users with a focus on usability and performance.
Snort (Web): Another web-based client that is praised for its simplicity and effectiveness.

Build your follow list slowly. Start with people you know or npubs you can verify then look into people they interact with and follow. Your feed will be as good as the care you take in deciding who to follow.
Best Advice on Using Nostr
Use Multiple Relays Connect to several reliable relays like wss://nos.lol wss://nostr, wss://nostr-pub.wellorder.net, wss://relay.damus.io, and wss://nostr.bitcoiner.social.
Consider Self-Hosting- Run your own relay for better privacy and control.
Choose high-quality accounts to follow for a more relevant feed.
Like, reply, and repost to influence the content you see. Utilize client filtering options to manage unwanted content.
Follow and use relevant hashtags to find interesting posts.
Use “Explore” or “Discover” features to find trending content.
Engage in Nostr-related communities for recommendations.
Clients for Best Experience
Damus (iOS)Feature-rich and user-friendly for iOS.
Amethyst (Android)Smooth and optimized for Android devices.
Iris (Web)Versatile and accessible from any browser.
Snort (Web)Simple and effective for quick access.
Primal Web Client: Best for enhanced content discovery within the Primal ecosystem.
By following these tips, you can enhance your Nostr experience and stay connected to valuable content and communities.
1. Save your nsec (and seed words if you were given some during sign up) in an offline environment such as USB or even paper; if your device crashes, you're okay.
2. Try all the clients, you'll begin to naturally gravitate to and return to the ones you like.
3. Trace the hashtags that you like, notice the usernames if noyes you like. Then, if you start to see repeaters follow them.
4. After following some people, start looking for 2nd tier follows...people who are followed by those who follow you.
5. Lastly, just so you don't get locked into the same line of thinking too much, occasionally look at hastags or places that you'd never normally check. Or just switch to "glibal" and see what pops up.
I like to use an app called #Amber (https://github.com/greenart7c3/Amber) by nostr:nprofile1qqs827g8dkd07zjvlhh60csytujgd3l9mz7x807xk3fewge7rwlukxgpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszyrhwden5te0dehhxarj9ekk7mf0qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uua9ywc
It let's me store my nsec offline and I can than use f.i. #Amethyst without posting my nsec into the client. Helpful for using several nsecs
I'd say reminder to zap useful content rather than just like it. I've set up Primal to zap when ever I click the heart icon.
For newbies like me, just watch, and learn as much as you can
Remember that everything is public except DMs and everything is undeletable in practice.
Block/mute early and often
Follow people if there's even a chance they might post something interesting, you can always unfollow later, but finding them again is non-trivial
You can use privacy software like Tor here, and some clients even make it very easy.
Lots of good points already made!
One thing I would add is that, since there is no algorithm, this is more like real life, where the effort you put in is most important.
When you respond to others, zap quality content, engage in conversation, follow people you like, etc. then you slowly build a great experience.
Can Alby support ecash?
For desktop browsers, I like the ease of using extensions like alby to sign in to websites, client nostr etc.
For Android, I like Amber, which can sign in to the Nostr client, but there aren't many Nostr clients on Android and Android browsers that support Amber.
I like Citrine as a local relay
My current favorite Nostr clients: Primal, Nostrudel
I search for something I want to know by typing keywords in the search client nostr column
You haven't tried amethyst?
Yes, I've tried it, but for me it looks full and my cellphone is a potato, so it's a bit slow
I've tried Clinet Nostr in the Spring app on Android, including Satellite, Coracle, indeed there are pros and cons for each. Unfortunately the old Spring app is not updated

Nice
I like it 😍
filter.nostr.wine makes Global Great Again.

Be your own algorithm.
Search out the hashtags of things you are interested in. Follow the people talking about that thing. Follow the people making good comments on those posts.
I believe that #Nostr and #Bitcoin have a complexity that is adaptable to the needs of each one. I would say as advice to experiment with clients, aligorhythms and relays until you find the needs satisfied.
I am not an experienced one, but it would be great to make a possibility for fundraising projects which are related to self-sufficiency in some aspects of life. Decentralization in food production, energy and education must be funded.
