I think Nostr could be great for communities.

But I don't think just any relay or client will do. I think the client and relay need to work together so that community members are onboarded into and see other community members and community content first.

That way all the Nostr superpowers become added value rather than distraction.

My current thinking is a relay-first client that shows relay-only feeds, and a relay with read-and-write auth for community member content.

I think we're almost there with some of things shipped in the last week or so. I'm pretty keen to pilot this and prove it out.

Is this concept different from IRC chat rooms that require an operator to allow a user to have voice? (read only) Or invite only IRC channels? (cannot read)

What makes nostr different is the relaying and duplication of data making it impossible to stop. If there is only one relay, is the benefit of nostr lost in that to shut down a community all anyone has to do is dos one server?

Maybe I am not understanding the concept here.
