If you run a bitcoin node, how do you handle the 600 GB initial hurdle?

You wait. Low time preference πŸ‘Œ

So no ssd?

SSD helps for sure, but network is going to be a bigger bottleneck depending on your connection. A decent box should be able to complete IBD in 24-48 hours in any case, it’s not going to take weeks either way

You can speed up the IBD by symlinking the chainstate on a fast SSD

With patience and strong WiFi

you need an ssd, I tried running it on an old spinning disks and it's was a terrible experience. I just copied the Blockchain from my other node so didn't have to wait a long time. It wasn't a big hurdle

with a raspberry pi5, SSD, ethernet, and then leave it be for a while
