I think the new user experience where you find people but also feel like they find you and hear you is important. Instagram and Twitter do a amazing job of promoting new users so they quickly feel engagement.

We need to do that better in nostr. nostr:note19880cmvkvvm2yke5gee2gxzsvkfn33nlqrg3q4wc79ukdxqu36lqt7jn89

I found #nostr quite welcoming to new peeps when I showed up.

Bluesky I have followers but literally no one has interacted with me yet on there

I’m not sure follow to unfollow strategies count as valued engagement.

when nostr was relatively spamless on the open relays new users got scooped up and attacked with love more than I’ve seen on any social network.

I do believe relays should be paid (even more than we pay now). I think relays picked up slack when the clients were in early development and a ton (and still do) on their plate, by solving this issue externally, and it was a good reason to pay for a relay, aside from the principle of paying for something you consume. Im not sure it’s the right solution for spam, and that might be solved by the client in a way that would also surface these new users much better.

interesting, bc i don’t see spam as a problem – one day nostr will grow to such an extent, that even filtered from spam global feed will be unreadable – that’s why different algorithms will be created – and ppl will use them 🤔

Although I agree a gobal feed sans spam at scale might be a bit unwieldy, you could still pull up new people from that to reach that scale. I think we’ve lost many early adopters who just stumbled upon in the switch to paid relays… them not seeing us with out a ton of spam, and us not seeing them through that ton of spam.

In other words, spam isn’t the problem, the solution to spam is a problem for new user experience. Presumably a algo based solution would be client based. I think we are saying the same thing.

Can you recommend any paid relays? The one I paid for wouldn't stay connected but maybe cuz I'm a new account.

look to #[5] Eden is pretty stable, at first there was some downtime with all of them, the three on my list seem to always be up

I haven’t joined wine yet, but everyone raves, haven’t spent the time to wrap my head around all their filtering features, I should probably fit that in tomorrow

this one isn’t paid, and not sure enough people have added it to prove its worth, the timing was alongside the paid relays so didn’t get breath to properly test. but it’s a relay that requires nip 05 instead of payment

wss://relay.orangepill.dev is also a good paid relay, and https://orangepill.dev has some really good technical docs on nostr

you mentioned some social networks which, as you said, good at promoting new users – but to be real, are they?

tbh, i see interactions as the most important thing to find groups of interest 🧐

Interaction brings 💡

How is going this bridge thing ?

Do you have some insights to share?

Are there interesting inter - network threads on generic topic going on ?

Is there a #nostrfollow hashtag to discover people ?

I have a hard time finding and following mostr.pub users from my fediverse perspective.

Also handles so far does not help.

Let's say i want to put rabble in copy, and i don't remember rabble handle 76c*whatever

So i search rabble in my instance

The handle is too long to copy and paste.

If i go to see the original source profile i land on a json file from where i copy the 76c*whatever thing.

interesting but tricky for casual conversations

I agree it has some major problems right now but I think these are solvable.

I would suggest client apps make better use of the `t` tag on kind 0 to store things that can identify the user’s interests and their community/tribe. That should really be pushed by apps. Then use that to return profiles when users do searches.

From my experience search on Nostr really sucks and that’s one of the ways. Part of the problem is not wanting to return spam. For people searches that can be reduced using extended follower networks and other measures of trust.
