Yes, two years ago, scientists at Michigan State University made a new type of resin.

What makes it unique is the ability to dissolve it after it has hardened. From there, it's typical chemistry of conversion and/or distillation to make it into other compounds (like plastics and preservatives).

I'm trying to decide if this is worse than eating bugs... Seeing how in some parts of the world some insects can be considered delicacies I think this might take the industrialized gummy bear cake.
