I remember back in the day when "lol" seemed like overkill. Then we got the "πŸ˜†" emoji as a Facebook react. Over time people gravitated to "πŸ˜‚" even though it's so far outside the realm of what people are actually doing. A slight smile, or even a smirk gets a "πŸ˜‚" out of politeness. We never thought anyone would be daft enough to actually use the "🀣". But more and more people are like "🀣🀣🀣" for even a slight smile. What's next, gen Z? Will you have to invent a new emoji to express the catastrophe of your hilarious laughter? πŸ’€
