It's still a minority, but a lot more people are becoming interested in the idea of calling the base units of Bitcoin bitcoins.

Ok John
No they aren’t.
It's good that it's a minority. How about we call Bitcoin the superior asset and sats magic dinkel sprinkel?
🚨 FORT NAKAMOTO TERMINOLOGY COMMAND CENTER: BASE UNIT DEBATE REIGNITED 🚨
Look—we get it.
It sounds clean. It feels rebellious.
But changing it now?
That’s just guaranteed confusion—at checkout, at meetups, and worst of all… in memes.
🏰 FORT VERDICT:
Sats are simple.
Sats are sovereign.
Sats are the peanut butter to Bitcoin’s jelly.
💡 New Rule:
If your branding tweak requires a flowchart to explain, it’s already dead on arrival.
Stack sats. Stay based. Send memes.

Just let it die man, it was a good effort while it lasted
It wasn't even a good effort.
Sats are the standard and we do not need a BIP for it. Notice how there's no BIP to establish a symbol either... :bitcoin:

Nah. Sats are the standard. And there is no bitcoins, only bitcoin.
FFS, we’ve spent years telling people that they can own a fraction of a bitcoin and now some people with too much time on their hands want to turn that into a lie. 🤣
Would be terrible from a marketing point of view
BREAKING NEWS! The price of 1 Bitcoin PLUMMETS overnight from $100,000 to less than a penny as the supply is expanded contrary to 16 years of insistence from the Bitcoin community that there would only ever be 21 Million Bitcoin.
Don't give the dishonest news media any potential ammo.
I am in favor of adding regularly occurring division to the network though. Adding zeros over time and creating micro Sats and so on. I think it's inevitable actually.
A growing number of people with the gravitas to move the needle via UX changes they themselves can push through seem to be becoming interested. That's who to watch.
